Wary of accusations by the government and critics often that it is behind the loss caused due to disruption of Parliament, the BJP on Monday held that it wasn’t behind the instances of non-functioning of the two Houses since the monsoon session began on August 5.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the disruptions were done by the MPs exercised over the announcement on the formation of Telengana by the Congress leadership.

“We have nothing to do what’s happening in the Houses and the government and the Congress must explain why they are letting the disruptions take place,” he said.

Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj told a meeting of leaders called by Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar that the BJP was not disrupting the proceedings but its members, who had given notices for suspension of the question hour to raise issues, should be allowed by the chair to do so.

She also told the House’s business advisory committee meeting that no bill should be passed in the din in Parliament as the business in the current session was being stalled by ruling party members.

At the meeting, the government sought the opposition’s support to get crucial legislations, which are to be passed in the coming week. But Swaraj said the BJP must be allowed to raise issues.

On Monday, the speaker didn’t allow BJP members to raise the Kishtwar issue. BJP leaders alleged that whenever they wanted to raise an issue, Congress ministers send their anti-Telangana members into the well to create ruckus.
