The Delhi High Court issued notices on Wednesday to the Delhi government, the directorate of education and the police commissioner, asking them to prevent school children from getting easy access to intoxicants.

The order was issued on a PIL filed by lawyer Sanjeev Sabharwal on the basis of a March 16 report in HT, ‘Delhi kids on a dangerous high’. The court told the authorities to place their responses by May 18 and asked Sabharwal for his additional suggestions.

The PIL demanded that access to eraser fluid, pain relief balms, nail polish removers and paint thinners be restricted for school-going children and that parents be sensitised to this growing addiction.

HT had reported on how students of a top school in Greater Noida were caught on CCTVs sniffing eraser fluid in class.
