Imagine living life without your hands. To emphasize the importance of our hands in our daily lives and create awareness about the magical prowess they possess, a unique painting competition for children called 'Magic of Hands' is being organised at the national level with a total prize money of Rs 10 lakh up for grabs.

Being held ahead of the 12th Triennial Congress of International Federation of Societies for Surgery of Hand (IFSSH) and the 9th Triennial Congress of the International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy (IFSHT) in the city in March, the competition is open to students from classes 6 to 9. It requires them to paint anything that shows the power or skill of hands - from a dancer's mudras to a soldier using a gun at the border. The painting must be accompanied by a title and an explanation of the sketch.

Participants must submit their entries by February 12, after which 50 finalists would be chosen from whom one winner would be declared by a jury. The winner will be awarded Rs 20,000, while the school will be awarded Rs 5 lakh, which they must use to upgrade their equipment. The 49 finalists will be awarded Rs 10,000 each.

The competition has been endorsed by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who hopes it will send out a good message to students, said the organizers. For more information, visit http://magicofhands2013.com.
