Standing in serpentine queues to get a birth certificate or a building plan issued will soon be a thing of the past.
All these facilities and a lot more will be available to you at the click of a button very soon. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will soon be making available a host of services online by June-end as part of its e-governance project.
According to senior MCD officials, a total of 71 services of its 40 departments will be available online to facilitate transparency in its working and to increase efficiency.
“The software is ready and the trials have also taken place. We will soon be implementing it by June-end. The civic agencies of a number of other cities have also asked us to provide them the model that we are using as it is very effective to monitor services online,” said a senior MCD official.
Under this project, Delhiites will be able to fill an online form and make the relevant payments, following which the birth or death certificate forms will be posted to them. Not only this, residents will no longer have to visit the zonal offices or MCD headquarters to submit their building plan applications. “One would only need to provide all the relevant documents online and the plan will be sanctioned within a stipulated period if it meets all the criteria,” added the official.
The e-governance project is being implemented at a cost of Rs 180 crore.
The civic agency had signed an agreement with Tech Mahindra in March last year for implementing it. A data centre, which will act as a server has been created at the Civic Centre, the headquarter of the civic agency. The civic agency had identified nodal officers and coordinators across its 40 departments to support implementation of the project.
Once the system is in place, licences — such as health licences, trader licences among others — can also be issued or renewed online.
“Once this system is in place it will ensure increased accountability of all the departments and officials. In addition to this it will allow automatic escalations and alerts to track defaulting departments and officials and a single point of information including online application filing, tracking, getting approvals, and knowing project status for all MCD projects and services,” added the official.
Under the e-governance project the status of MCD projects, files and whether officials have been turning up to work or not will be made available.
The MCD officials are being trained so that they are able to use the system.
