The changes in promotion policy under Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) will apply to the current batch of students in class 9 and will be carried on to the next year.

The maximum points that a student can gain under the new scheme are 65, up from 42 till last year. A student who gets between 53 and 65 points will have the opportunity of upgrading grades in two subjects while a student who gets between 40 and 52 points will be able to get the grade of one subject upgraded.

While Physical Education, and Attitude and Values are counted in terms of overall performance since CCE was implemented in 2009, the net has become wider from this year.

“We have been trying to put emphasis on co-curricular activities ever since we introduced the CCE. Work Education, which includes meaningful work such as gardening, book keeping, and participation in performing arts has been included in the assessment this time to encourage more students to hone their skills,” said a CBSE official.

The benefit of this programme will be given to students who win prizes in competitions at national and international levels by a recognised body.
