A 19-year-old boy was abducted and murdered allegedly by two of his former classmates in northwest Delhi’s Rohini on Wednesday night.
The police arrested the accused — identified as Sachin and Rubal — on Thursday from near the Sector 11 Metro station, where they had come to collect a Rs 30-lakh ransom.
The victim, Aashish Garg, was a Class 12 dropout who lived in Dwarka, southwest Delhi. Sachin and Rubal were pursuing business management from Kurukshetra University.
Apart from the ransom, the police said revenge was another motive for the crime. An officer said that Aashish had thrashed Rubal in front of some girls when they were students at a private school in Dwarka and he had held a grudge ever since.
A senior police officer said the duo strangled Aashish at a rented accommodation in Rohini’s Naharpur area after sedating him. After their arrest, they told the police where they could find the body.
“Interrogation of the accused revealed they called Aashish to Janakpuri Metro station on the pretext of celebrating Sachin’s birthday. Aashish came on his motorcycle, which he left at the station’s parking lot. The three then left in a car for the house in Naharpur,” the officer said.
Rubal, whose mother is a clerk in the Delhi Police, had taken the place on rent just four days ago.
After killing Aashish, the officer said, the two called his father Ashok Garg, a businessman, on his mobile and demanded a Rs 50-lakh ransom. The deal was finalised at Rs 30 lakh and Garg was called to the Metro station. But he informed the police and the duo was nabbed.
