On Monday, Delhi police arrested one of the two men who had stolen Rs 80 lakh from Yamuna Bank metro station, last week. The arrested man, identified as Sanjay, was working with a company which had the contract to deposit the collection money to the bank. Police said he had joined the company with the intention of theft only.

“One of the accused has been arrested. We are looking for his accomplice. Both of them had joined after changing their names and giving fake identity proof. We have recovered Rs 41 lakh from him while remaining amount is with the second accused,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity. The arrest was made from Etah in UP and police sources said the second accused is in Delhi.

“Sanjay, alias Bunty, a resident of Dholeswar village, in Etah, has been apprehended. His accomplice, Pawan, is absconding,” the officer added.

Sanjay’s house was raided on Saturday night and two sealed packets of currency notes were recovered. His location was traced through his mobile. The raid was conducted with the help of the local police.

Police said the two men were deployed to collect cash from metro stations on the Barakhamba Road-Anand Vihar-Akshardham-Noida City Centre stretch, and deposit the money with the cash vans at assigned spots. However, they did not return on Monday last week. When their employers contacted them, they gave vague replies and switched off their phones.

Based on this complaint, a case has been registered at the Yamuna Bank Metro Police Station.
