Six bike-borne assailants stabbed a petrol pump staffer to death and injured three others in northwest Delhi's Saraswati Vihar area on Wednesday night, police said.
“The incident occurred at 1:20 am at a Hindustan Petroleum petrol pump. A scuffle broke out between the staff and the assailants when the latter were asked to wait for their turn,” said a senior police officer.
The police identified the deceased as Rakesh (32), a native of Bulandshahr, who was on night duty when the incident occurred. His injured colleagues have been identified as Dharmendra, Chirag and Akshay, all in their twenties.
"The six men - two on each motorcycle - entered into a heated argument with the pump staff, following which the assailants attacked the four staff members with knives," the officer said.
According to the police, while Rakesh died on the spot, others were rushed to the nearby Babu Jag Jiwan Ram Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Eyewitnesses, however, had a different version of the incident.
“The men on the bikes got their vehicles filled but refused to pay for the fuel. They entered into a heated argument with Rakesh who told them to pay or else he would inform the police,” said Chandan Kumar (22), who works at the petrol pump.
He said when Dharmendra, Chirag and Akshay rushed to Rakesh's help, the assailants attacked them with the same knives. “We have registered a case and a manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants,” the officer added.
