TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS
Direction: Dave Green
Actors: Megan Fox, Stephen Amell
Rating: 1 Star
The hokey 2014 live action adventure-comedy has spawned an even sillier sequel aimed squarely at the 10-and-younger set.
Utterly dull and pointless, the retread has the crime-fighting quartet named after Italian Renaissance painters pitted against a familiar super-villain (Brian Tee).
The sluggish plot throws in a couple of unsavoury new henchmen too, a rhinoceros and a warthog, if you please. And there’s a stick-wielding vigilante (Amell) who teams up with the titular terrapins to save Manhattan from being blown to smithereens.
Reprising their roles from the earlier edition are Tony Shalhoub (voice only) as the turtles’ wisdom-spewing rat mentor and Megan Fox as the go-getter heroine.
Replete with tacky dialogue and mind-numbing CGI action …Out of The Shadows doesn’t offer a single exciting or entertaining sequence in its unduly lengthy two-hour running time.
Worse, it wastes the considerable talents of Laura Linney in a take-the-paycheque-andrun cameo as a clueless police officer.
T he only response this Michael Bay-produced travesty is likely to elicit from the viewer is… yawn.
