Five months after her wedding, a Gurgaon bride has landed in prison along with her mother and brothers.
Shilpi’s in-laws have accused her of conspiring to eliminate them, to usurp their multi-crore property.
Shilpi’s father-in-law, Col (retired) Rajiv Kumar Goyal, has alleged she promised their driver Ashok Kumar Rs 50 lakh, and paid him an advance of Rs 15,000, to have him and his wife Rekha killed. The loyal driver reportedly foiled her plan by informing the Goyals.
The Station House Officer of Palam Vihar, Ramphal Goyal, said Shilpi’s father-in-law had recorded the conversation between her and the driver and passed it on to the police.
Acting on the complaint, the police booked Shilpi, her mother and brothers under section 115 (abetting murder) and 120B (conspiracy) of IPC.
On Friday, the accused were arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days.
Shilpi, 23, is a graduate in architecture. She married Col Goyal’s mentally challenged son, Kapil, in April.
While Goyal claims she did so with an eye on their property, Shilpi and her mother Krishna Singla deny this. They instead accuse the Goyals of not disclosing their son’s mental condition before the marriage.
Shilpi now accuses her husband and in-laws of harassing her for dowry. She says she had moved out of the Goyals’ Sector 23 house one-and-a-half months ago.
“I had threatened Col Goyal I would file a dowry harassment case against him and his family. Fearing police action, he has hatched this plot to trap me and my family,” she says.
