The Central Indus-trial Security Force (CISF) detained a 35-year-old Pakistani national from a Metro station on Monday, the police said.
The man, identified as Mohammad Ramzan, was handed over to the Delhi Police after he was taken in for clicking a female co-passenger's pictures at the Rajouri Garden Metro station.
"Ramzan is a native of Lahore and was clicking photographs of a woman using his mobile phone at the Rajouri Garden Metro station inside a Metro compartment. Some passengers noticed him and reported him to CISF officers," said a senior Delhi Police officer.
The police said CCTV footage accessed from the Metro station confirmed that Ramzan was taking pictures.
"On checking, some pictures of a woman were found on his mobile. He has a valid Pakistani passport," said the officer.
Police said Ramzan told them that he had come to India with a 'Jamaat' of 50 to 60 people on a pilgrimage on Saturday.
"He came to India two days ago and is staying at a cheap hotel in Paharganj hotel with his compatriots. We are trying to verify his antecedents but are more or less certain about the fact that he had no malicious intent," the officer said.
According to the police, Ramzan said he was unaware that photography was prohibited inside the Metro.
“He said he was on a joyride and had gone to Dwarka station for the same. He is slated to visit several locations in the country along with the others on the trip,” the officer added.
