A team led by an IIT professor will examine the Capital’s water-logging problem and prepare a master plan to provide a long-term solution, the Delhi government told the Delhi high court on Wednesday.
“The task of taking effective measures for long-term redressal of the problem of water-logging in Delhi by preparing a master plan for drainage has already been approved by the Cabinet of NCT of Delhi,” said the action-taken-report (ATR) filed by irrigation and flood control department (IFCD).
The department filed the report in response to an earlier direction of a bench headed by acting Chief Justice AK Sikri. The court asked it to give details of the action taken to solve the water-logging problem in Delhi.
The report said the cabinet, headed by chief minister Sheila Dikshit, had appointed AK Gosain, HoD of civil engineering department at IIT, Delhi, as consultant to prepare the master plan.
The master plan aims at finding a solution to the problem for about 30-35 years, it said.
The government said it had also apprised all stakeholders, including DDA, MCD, NDMC, DJB and DMRC of the IIT professor’s proposal on the issue and has sought the civic agencies’ responses.
Besides preparing the master plan, the committee headed by Gosain will also formulate an action plan for its implementation. The matter will be heard on August 22.
