The 'live-in' partner of a 38-year-old woman, who was found murdered on the Delhi-Agra highway near Palwal on September 28, was arrested on Wednesday. He had allegedly hired contract killers to kill her.

Mukesh Lakhanpal, the circulation head of Business World magazine, had earlier claimed that three highway robbers had killed Satvinder when she resisted their attempts to rob them.

Lakhanpal had told the police that he was married to her and but it later turned out he was her live-in partner. During interrogation, he broke down and confessed to have hired contract killers to murder her.

He told the police that Satvinder had been threatening to kill his wife and children as he was still in touch with them.

Police have now launched a search to arrest the killers.

"His inconsistent statements caught him in his own web and he finally admitted he was forced to get her eliminated," SP, Palwal, Jagat Singh Hooda, said.

"He hired three goons and paid them Rs 1.5 lakh as advance," the police said, adding, "The goons led by one Yogesh from Delhi came on a motorcycle, tied Mukesh's legs and arms and murdered Satvinder near the toll plaza." "Mukesh was to pay Rs 1 lakh more to the killers," the police said.
