Running late to board the flight, a passenger made a hoax call about a bomb in Indigo flight, which delayed the flight for over an hour. The airline’s call centre received a call regarding an explosive device being planted in the flight and a terrorist aboard the plane.
The 6E 309 flight had already departed from Lucknow at that time and Delhi was alerted before it landed. The flight landed at 4pm and was taken to isolation bay.
Passengers were asked to de-board and luggage was taken off. “The routine procedures were followed and all the passengers were subjected to thorough check. A team was looking into the call details,” said an airport source. The passenger, identified as Raj Bajaj, came to airport after making the call and his number was also in the passenger list. “We matched the detail and detained Bajaj.
He denied involvement but he was handed over to police,” the source added. A bomb threat assessment team was formed and primary investigations declared the call ‘non-specific’, meaning the bomb threat was hoax. But till late night no case was registered as neither Gurgaon nor Delhi police received the complaint. “We can take action after getting the complaint,” said DCP airport O.P. Mishra.
The passengers were again subjected to full frisking, before the flight left for Hyderabad at 7pm. “The caller has been nabbed and handed over to the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee,” said Aditya Ghosh, Indigo president.
