Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram is likely to visit the US by the end of the week to intensify pressure on Pakistan. Chidambaram is expected to meet US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Director of the Office of National Intelligence John Michael McConnell and US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.
Home Ministry officials remained tight-lipped about the details of the visit. It was learnt that the Home Minister’s US visit would only last a few days and that very few officials would be accompanying him. Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta would probably stay back in India. It is also not known whether National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan would accompany him to the US or not.
