Policemen in night patrol vehicles will be under close watch from now on. Their movements will be monitored from the Police Control Room (PCR) at the Delhi Police Headquarters thanks to the Global Positioning System (GPS).
Out of a total of 493 PCR vans, 399 have already been fitted with GPS. The rest will soon follow. “We want to give a much sharper edge to the PCR response system,” Police Commissioner YS Dadwal said.
“Suppose a case of carjacking takes place in Malviya Nagar and we receive a call. Immediately, the officer sitting in the control room would know the position of PCR vans in Saket, Malviya Nagar, Panchsheel Park and nearby areas,” Dadwal said. “He will be able to know from the screen the roads that PCR vans can immediately block and actually direct them to do so.”
