A Delhi court convicted gangster Sukhdev Pehalwan in the murder of Nitish Katara.

The court noted that he, in connivance with former Rajya Sabha member DP Yadav's son Vikas Yadav, and nephew Vishal Yadav, committed the offence.

Earlier, trial court had sentenced Yadav brothers to life imprisonment.

Katara was abducted and killed by the trio in 2002, as he was having a secret love affair with Yadav’s sister, Bharti Yadav. The court convicted Pehalwan for murder and kidnapping.

Pehalwan faced a separate trial, as he had jumped his bail and was declared as a proclaimed offender.

He was also found guilty of destroying the evidence while he was absconding. He was arrested in 2005 and faced a separate trial.

Additional sessions judge JR Aryan said the court would hear the arguments on quantum of sentence for Pehalwan on Thursday. The judge said that Pehalwan was with Vikas and Vishal Yadav during the murder.

According to the prosecution, Pehalwan was present with the convicts, Yadav brothers, in their car after they had abducted Nitish from a marriage function at Ghaziabad and killed him on the night of February 16, 2002.
