An 18-year-old B.Pharma student committed suicide at her hostel in Pushp Vihar on Monday night.
The girl, identified as Shivani Rana, was a first year student at Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Research (DIPSAR). The girl’s parents are however suspecting foul play and claimed that the handwriting in the suicide note is not of their daughter.
“Rana had gone to her native village in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh on Diwali and had returned two days ago. She was living in the hostel and was sharing room with three other girls. On Monday evening she didn’t go for classes and when her roommates returned, they found her hanging with a ceiling fan,” a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
Rana’s roommates returned around 8.30pm and when she didn’t open the door, they informed the warden who broke open the door and informed the police. She was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. Police are investigating the cause of suicide and are taking statements of her friends and relatives.
A suicide note has been recovered with the body which says: “I am trying to commit suicide and if I fail please don’t shout at me.” “We are investigating the matter on various possible angles. Her call details are being scanned,” the officer added.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
