Pilot, cab driver hurt in accident

A 48-year-old Kingfisher Airlines pilot and the driver of the private taxi he was travelling in suffered critical injuries after a speeding Mahindra Scorpio SUV ran into their car from behind in Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi late on Sunday night.

A 48-year-old Kingfisher Airlines pilot and the driver of the private taxi he was travelling in suffered critical injuries after a speeding Mahindra Scorpio SUV ran into their car from behind in Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi late on Sunday night.

Police impounded the Scorpio and said they would arrest the accused soon.

According to the police, the accident occurred around 10 pm near the toll plaza on National Highway- 8 on Sunday.

Police said that the pilot, Tarun Dheemer, was on his way to IGI airport to join duty in private taxi, a Maruti Esteem car.

The police said Tarun had hired the cab from Akbar travel agency from Rajokri area.

“On the way near the toll plaza, a speeding Scorpio SUV ran into the car from behind. The impact was so hard that both vehicles overturned on the road. Both Tarun and the cab driver suffered severe injuries and were immediately rushed to AIIMS Trauma centre in a critical condition. They were discharged late on Monday evening. The Scorpio’s driver and one more person fled.

Police said they had identified the occupants of the Scorpio. “We have recorded the statement of the victims and the eyewitness and a cash of rash and negligent driving causing hurt has been registered against the errant driver who is still absconding,” a senior police officer said.
