Two weeks after they encountered and were allegedly attacked by a nine-member gang of seemingly Mewati cattle-poachers at northwest Delhi, the Delhi Police have nabbed a 21-year-old criminal who had escaped after the shootout.

Identified as Hazrat, a casual labourer from adjacent Ghaziabad's Nihal Village, he is the seventh accused in the case which saw the death of one of his associates on the night of January 18, said SBS Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways). However, the leader of the gang, Asif, is yet to be arrested.

"Hazrat was arrested on Thursday morning from the vicinity of Seelampur Metro station. The loaded, improvised pistol, which had been used by him to attack the police, had been recovered from the spot hours after the shootout," DCP Tyagi said.
