Delhiites witnessed a warm and humid on Thursday with the temperature reaching 36 degrees Celsius and the humidity recorded at 74%. The coming two days are expected to be similar with the maximum temperature hovering around 37 degrees.
Though the day was warm and uncomfortable on Thursday, the maximum temperature was still one degree below normal.
"The weather is cooler this year compared to last year. In April last year, the temperature had touched 40 degrees which is not going to happen this time," said an official at the India Meteorological Department (IMD). "In such conditions a small rise seems like a big one," he added.
"Thursday afternoon was quite warm with the clear sky making it worse. It was also very humid," said Manju Kapoor, a resident of Malviya Nagar.
But the minimum temperature has been considerably below normal for the last few weeks. On Thursday morning it was recorded at 19.2 degrees, 4 degrees below normal.
"We have still not started switching on the air conditioner as the weather is very pleasant in the morning. This is quite unusual for late April," said Nilesh Kumar, a resident of RK Puram.
According to the weatherman, the maximum temperature on Friday will be 36 degrees Celsius while the minimum will be 19 degrees. A clear sky is expected on Friday and Saturday. Rain is not expected in the coming week.
Earlier in the week the IMD had declared that the country is going to receive normal monsoon this year. While last year the temperatures shot through the roof, the weatherman has said it will not happen this year.
"Though the summer will be hot, the temperature will be only one or two degrees above normal. Last year, the temperatures were 4 to 5 degrees above normal," the official said.
