Reacting to attacks by PM Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the Bihar government over “secularism” and not taking advantage of Centre’s development schemes, the BJP on Saturday accused the Congress of having been complicit in the “Lalu-Rabri misrule”.
It also defended the NDA government in Bihar, saying it had been widely praised for bringing development to Bihar.
“Rahul Gandhi and the PM should give one answer. They say Congress will bring sushasan (good governance) to Bihar, but in the 15 years of Lalu-Rabri misrule the Congress was with them,” said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad. “Between 2000-05, the RJD government had 22 Congress ministers. There were scams like the fodder scam. The Congress is guilty not just of conspiracy of silence but willing assistance.”
He said the Planning Commission, the Central Statistical Organisation and many surveys had praised the NDA government in Bihar. “Central money is not a family’s money, but is given to states as per norms. Further, there has been step-motherly treatment of non-Congress governments like Bihar, including for flood rehabilitation,” he said.
“Rahul is still learning and just repeats what his team says, but the PM should have done his homework well,” he added.
Prasad also sought to rubbish the buzz that Nitish Kumar wanted to avoid the company of L.K. Advani with an eye on Muslim votes, saying that the Bihar CM had asked him to convey that Advani was welcome to Bihar.
