A day after HT reported that the murder case of Bajrang Lal Bokadia and his three employees has been solved, the crime branch on Wednesday formally arrested the estranged wife of Bokadia’s nephew.
The three other accused, who were on the run, were caught late at night on Wednesday.
Investigations have revealed that the accused had not planned on killing Bokadia. He died as he returned home early when they were busy ransacking his bedroom. It has also been learnt that they had tried to execute the plan on August 17 but the room they wanted to target was locked and they were not carrying lock-breaking tools.
Mona Duggal, 25, was arrested from her parents’ house in northeast Delhi’s Sunder Nagri. She had separated from her husband Ajay, Bokadia’a nephew, whom she had married last year. Her interrogation revealed that the conspiracy was masterminded by her uncle Rajiv, while her brother Harjeet and his friend Sanjay were co-conspirators. She claimed the accused are carrying jewellery worth over Rs 3 crore.
The first breakthrough in the case came following interrogation of as many as 20 women. “We had learnt that a woman was seen at Bokadia’s house a day before the murders were discovered. We prepared a list of women who had access to the house. Their interrogation helped us establish Mona’s involvement,” additional CP (crime) Ravindra Yadav said, adding they had prepared a sketch and Bokadia’s wife had identified her as Mona.
On August 17, the accused went to Bokadia’s bungalow on the pretext of seeking reconciliation between Mona and Ajay. As Bokadia was not home, they did a recce of the bungalow.
On August 18, they returned and overpowered the cook while the domestic help, Anand, was sleeping. They were busy ransacking the room after cutting the lock when Bokadia arrived.
“Mona opened the door and let him inside only to have him overpowered by her accomplices. A few minutes later, Bokadia’s driver Vinod Dubey also came inside and he was also overpowered. They killed them and ransacked four of the five almirahs,” Yadav said.
