The police have arrested two carjackers who had chopped off the tongue of their victim, presuming that would prevent the victim from recording his statement to the police.

According to police, one of the accused is the son of a retired Air Force officer and the duo used to book cabs through phone and drug the drivers to steal the cars. The two used to look for tours and travel companies on the internet and later call them posing as tourists.

“We have arrested Ajay Kaushik and Om Prakash who have confessed to their involvement in two carjacking incidents — one in Vasant Vihar and another at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). They were apprehended from Dwarka,” Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police

(crime) said.

Police have also recovered one sophisticated pistol and five live cartridges of 7.65 bore besides a brand new Swift Dzire car. “In the latest incident, they cut off the tongue of the unconscious driver, presuming that would prevent the victim from complaining against them after gaining consciousness,” Chand added.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that through internet they used to zero in on travel agencies to hire cars. “On June 1, they hired a Swift Dzire car from Devgan Tours & Travels for Agra after posing as residents of Munirka. During the journey, they offered soft drink laced with sedatives to the driver,” Chand added. After the driver fell unconscious, they cut his tongue off and fled with car after dumping him.

“They had dumped the driver in Haryana and the victim first approached the Haryana Police, who conducted his medical examination. He narrated the whole incident in writing and the case was transferred to the Vasant Vihar police station,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.

In another incident, the same accused hired a Toyota Innova car from Delhi airport for Jaipur and then drugged the driver near Manesar, threw him and fled with the car and later sold it. Police are expecting more recoveries from the duo.

“Kaushik is a diploma holder in computer engineering. He used to look for tours and travel agencies on the internet and Prakash then used to call them. The SIM card they were using was taken on fake identity. They had also pasted a Delhi police sticker on the windscreen of car,” he added.
