Delhi Police has asked the Organising Committee (OC) to handover the data of all the cars and buses that would be entering the Games venues and stadia.
A radio frequency reader that has been installed at the gates of all the venues would allow entry to only those vehicles whose details matches with those available with the Delhi Police. A unique hologram sticker has been pasted on these vehicles containing all the details including the identification details of the driver.
There were security concerns amid reports that some vehicles were using fake stickers to ply on the dedicated Games lane.
Unavailability of data could cause major goof up at the entry gates during the Games.
“We have asked for the number and details of all the vehicles as the radio frequency reader installed at the Games venue would not be of any use if we do not have the data,” said a senior police officer.
The OC has been delaying the issue, forcing the top brass of the police to ask for the data.
“We needed the data as we have to first feed the details in our server and then match those with the vehicles entering the venue. We do not want unauthorised entry of any vehicle for which security can be compromised. The frequency reader will be able to read the details automatically before the vehicle is allowed entry,” said the officer.
Three senior Delhi Police officials visited the OC headquarters late on Tuesday evening and asked them to furnish them the details of all the vehicles at the earliest.
