A Haryana Police constable has been arrested in connection with the murder of a man whose son had eloped with the policeman's daughter.

Police sources said the daughter of Madan Kumar, a Haryana police constable, had eloped with a boy from the same village, Gulavad in Palwal district, seven months back, and never returned.

Both sides started harbouring hatred towards each other after the incident and a few days back, members from the girl's side allegedly fired at the boy's father. The victim, Manak Chand, 45, died on the spot.

The police arrested Madan Kumar, who turned out to be a constable posted in Nuh district. "His son Praveen is absconding and teams have been formed to arrest him," said Virendra Kumar (DSP), Hodal in Palwal district.

"The weapon used in the murder is yet to be recovered. But we are hopeful of its recovery after Praveen's arrest," SHO Hassanpur police station, Ram Krishen said.

Besides Praveen, a case of murder has been registered against an unnamed accused whose identity will be established once Praveen is nabbed.

"Madan has been lodged at Neemka jail in Faridabad," a police officer said.

Police believe both the boy and the girl got married soon after they eloped.

Sources said the villagers and the police were expecting the boy, identified as Krishen, to attend his father's funeral but he did not turn up.

Security has been beefed up in the village after the gruesome murder as a precautionary measure.
