Motorists in south and New Delhi areas were in for a rude shock on Tuesday afternoon when a huge jam almost crippled any movement on the roads. Reason: Operation Black Rose.
Delhi police had barricaded various points after an alert was sounded about some kidnappers fleeing in a car. The call, it turns out, was part of Operation Black Rose of Delhi Police. This is the code name for a mock exercise to check police efficiency.
"We carry out this exercise to check how Delhi police reacts and how it should react in an emergency situation. Checking was increased by barricading various points which led to jam, as traffic was moving slow," said a senior police officer.
"I got stuck near INA market as there was huge jam. I thought some heavy vehicle broke down but later I realised there was barricading; traffic was hardly moving," said Shradha Nagar, a resident of Malviya nagar.
The drive comes against the backdrop of abduction and rape of a call centre employee in Dhaula Kuan where police failed to track the vehicle or the victim despite a PCR call.
