Officers who have chased 36-year-old Manoj Bakarwala have confessed that it is next to impossible to catch him when he is on the wheels. So on Monday morning, when a special cell team got a tip-off about his presence in the city, they made sure not to touch him till he was inside his car.
“We are aware of his excellent driving skills and waited him to come out of the car. As soon as he came out, we nabbed him,” a source said. Bakarwala was reportedly coming from Nainital. “His movement was recorded in Aligarh, Nainital, Rudrapur and Haldwani in the past few days. His girlfriend lives in Aligarh and he generally takes shelter at an accomplice’s house there,” the source added.
After reaching the Ghazipur flyover, Bakarwala waited inside the car for a few minutes. “He was waiting for his associates whom we arrested later. After a three-hour-long drive, he came out from the car to relax himself,” he said.
During interrogation, Bakarwala told the police that after robbing a Volkswagen Vento car from Saket in November, he used to travel in it.
“After stealing cars, he used to give them to his associates who used to dispose of the vehicles,” the source said. After his arrest, the Delhi Police are also planning to write a letter to Tihar Jail authorities to make sure he doesn’t escape again.
The Delhi Police have identified and prepared a list of 139 desperate criminals involved in multiple heinous crimes or belonging to notorious gangs who may have a propensity to escape from custody and Bakarwala is on top of that list.
