A ten-year-old boy was rescued by Delhi Police from the clutches of his kidnappers led by a Chambal dacoit in Rajasthan early this morning after a brief gunbattle, police said.
Tarun, a resident of south-west Delhi's Rajapuri, was rescued two months after he was kidnapped from near his home, they said.
His family had received a ransom call of Rs three crore on March 12 from a man claiming to be Chandan Singh, who operates from the Chambal forests in Rajasthan's Sikandarpur area.
Investigations, meanwhile, led to the arrest of six people who told police that they have kidnapped the boy and handed over him to Singh.
Singh is operating from Bholpur area and a specific information was received that the boy was being kept in the jungles near a temple in Sikandarpur area.
A police team rushed to the spot o Friday and during searches, they came across a group of four-to-five people moving with a child.
The team flashed the search lights on them and the group of dacoits opened fire at police, which retaliated the firing.
As the police team fired back, the dacoits fled from the spot leaving the child there. The boy was recovered and brought to the national capital.
