A Head Constable of Delhi Police was shot at when he had gone to arrest a criminal in Aman Vihar in Outer Delhi on Wednesday.
The police said the incident took place around 3:30 p.m. in Jaiti Village in Aman Vihar.
“Head Constable Mahavir Singh, who is posted with Aman Vihar police station, had gone to arrest one Narender alias Don against whom a non-bailable warrant (NBW) has been issued,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Atul Katiyar.
Constable Govardhan accompanied the head constable, the DCP said.
According to the police, Narender's accomplice showed up when Singh was going to arrest him. The man pulled out a country made revolver and shot at the policeman.
The police said the accused first refused to come but later the head constable tried to summon him and thought he would come without putting up a fight.
Police said Singh suffered a bullet injury in his leg and was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be stable.
Meanwhile, Narender managed to escape from the spot and a hunt is on to nab him and his accomplice.
DCP Katiyar said the accused has over seven cases of kidnapping and assault registered against him. He said the accused had been living in the Aman Vihar area for quite some time. Police have registered a case.
