All her life, Nirmala Sharma has been a housewife. At 63, she has decided to bring some change to the world. She is a first-time candidate who wants to wage a war against crime and injustice against the aged.

“The old are getting murdered and looted these days like it’s nobody’s business. I want to institutionalise social protection to the old,” she said.

Sharma joined a women’s NGO a few years ago to further her cause. “But I am contesting as an Independent. People who want to fight corruption will vote for me,” she said. She is also keen to see the youth take over the reins of the country.
