The Supreme Court on Thursday gave another five months to Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by it to complete the probe into the alleged role of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleagues and police officials in aiding and abetting killings during post-Godhra riots.

A bench headed by Justice DK Jain asked the SIT to conclude the investigation and file its report by December 31.

The court had on April 27 asked the SIT to complete the probe within three months on a complaint made by Jakia Nasim Ahesan, wife of slain Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, accusing Modi and 62 others of aiding and abetting the persons involved in the killings during the 2002 riots that followed the Godhra carnage.
