Raghubir Singh, a resident of Vasant Kunj, was abducted on May 26, 2011. His body was later found unclaimed at Sushant Lok, Gurgaon.
The Gurgaon police, after a post-mortem examination, cremated the body and did not pass on any information to the Delhi Police. Later, it registered a murder case into the death of the realtor and began conducting its own investigation.
A week after the incident, Om Wati, wife of Singh, learnt about an unidentified body found in Gurgaon. She rushed to the police station, where officials showed her some valuables recovered from the body. She identified them as those belonging to her husband.
Puneet Mittal, counsel for Om Wati, said in court, “Neither Delhi Police nor Gurgaon Police bothered to share the information regarding the abduction and murder of the victim (with his family).”
The court noted that it was the prerogative of the Vasant Kunj police station to investigate the murder, as the case was initially registered there.
“The Vasant Kunj police have to take further steps in the investigation and get the FIR registered at the Sushant Lok police station,” said Justice Suresh Kait.
Directing the Gurgaon police, the judge said, “The concerned police officer of Gurgaon, including all agencies concerned (in this case) shall assist Delhi Police (in the investigation).”
