Delhiites who consume between 200 and 400 units of power every month can look forward to neat savings of 3% to 19% soon.

After complaints of bills hitting the roof following the 26% tariff hike in July, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has proposed to re-introduce the slab of 201-400 units that had been scrapped.

Since July, consumers were being charged Rs. 3.70 per unit for a monthly consumption of up to 200 units. Consumption over 200 and up to 400 units was charged Rs. 4.80 per unit.

In the re-introduced 201-400 slab, the first 200 units would be charged Rs. 3.70 per unit and the remaining units Rs. 5.70. Those using a little over 200 units stand to save 19% in their bills while those consuming close to 400 units will save a minimum of 3%.

DERC officials said the new structure would be implemented in retrospect from July 1 and would benefit people covered by 6 lakh (12%) connections. A public hearing is to be held on October 8 for suggestions from power firms and consumers.
