Metro commuters suffered service disruption on one of the busiest corridors that connects Jahangirpuri with Gurgaon on Wednesday morning.

Repeated power fluctuation and power tripping slowed down the Metro service on the Yellow Line where trains run at 3.5 minutes frequency. This slowed down the trains’ movement, resulting into bunching of trains on the track.

According to DMRC officials, normalcy was restored in about 30 minutes. “Our technical staff conducted a test of power distribution system on the corridor. Sub-stations situated at Sultanpur and New Delhi supply power on the corridor. During the process, power fluctuation started which disrupted the Metro service,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

According to him, the disruption continued for about 10 more minutes which led to bunching. “However no train was cancelled. Nor was any commuter stuck inside any train for long,” the official added.

However, commuters complained that trains got stuck on the tracks for long and ACs too were also not working properly. “I was travelling from Kashmere Gate to Green Park. When the train reached Rajiv Chowk, it got stuck there for about 25 minutes. After about five minutes the ACs stopped working in the jam-packed train. After 25 minutes, the train started moving but very slowly. It took me more than an hour to reach my destination,” said Gunjan Mathur, commuter.
