Pre-monsoon showers cool capital

Welcome showers bring relief for Delhiites as mercury dipped sharply in the capital that had been experiencing scorching heat for the past few days.

Welcome showers brought relief for Delhiites as mercury dipped sharply in the capital that had been experiencing scorching heat for the past few days.

The Mercury, which hovered around 34 degrees before the rains, dipped to 29 degrees Celsius as moisture-laden south easterly winds accompanied by showers cooled the capital.

The weatherman said the showers were due to an upper air cyclonic circulation active over Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh.

The weather office said this could be pre-monsoon showers as the monsoon has reached eastern Uttar Pradesh and is advancing slowly towards Delhi.

The maximum temperature on Thursday was a little above 38 degrees.
