The National Human Rights Commission deputy inspector general (investigation) Satinder Pal Singh has been awarded the President's Police Medal for meritorious services.
A 1995 batch India Police Service officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, Singh is posted in the Investigation Division of NHRC since June, 2006 and has conducted several important investigations.
The probes into the activities of anti-naxal group Salwa Judum in Chattisgarh, the violence in Nandigram, West Bengal and the incidents of communal violence in Karnataka are among some of the important assignments successfully completed by him.
He also has the distinction of representing Indian contingent of the UN Civilian Police at Kosovo in 2004. He is also a winner of sword of honour in his batch of IPS officers at the National Police Academy, Hyderabad, an NHRC release said.
Prior to his appointment in the NHRC, Singh served as the superintendent of police in the three districts of Sirmaur, Mandi and Kangda in Himachal Pradesh.
