Two prisoners escaped from Delhi's high-security Tihar Jail by climbing a wall and digging a tunnel under another late on Saturday night.
Both men were in the prison for burglary. One of them was recaptured while the other is still at large, officials said on Monday.
The escape came to light during the daily roll call on Sunday.
The two men clambered over the wall of jail no 7, where they were being held, on Saturday night and entered the compound of the nearby jail no 8. They then dug a tunnel under the wall of jail no 8 and escaped.
After finding the tunnel, the prison’s administration sent a team to trace the duo. One prisoner, identified only as Faizan, was soon caught by the team. The team could not find the other prisoner named Javed.
According to reports, the authorities of Tihar Jail informed Delhi Police about the escape after several hours.
Tihar Jail, Asia's largest prison complex, has more than 12,000 prisoners though it was built to hold far fewer people. Several politicians and businessmen are also being held in the prison.
