A departmental inquiry has been ordered against the inspector of the Shakarpur police station for not making any progress in the six-month-old murder case that was eventually solved by the DCP (east) and his office staff.
The probe was ordered by the joint commissioner of police (southeast range), a day after the story was published in Hindustan Times.
The murder case of a man, whose body was recovered in Shakarpur area on January 1, was solved through a chance sighting of the deceased’s picture in Zipnet (Zonal Integrated Police Network) record by the staff of the DCP.
“There was no attempt by the inspector, who was the investigating officer in the case, even to identify the victim whose body was found at an isolated place in Shakarpur. Surprisingly, he was even unaware about the fact that a missing complaint about the victim was registered four months after his murder and that too at a police station in Delhi. It reflected his disinterest in working out the case and thus a probe has been ordered against him,” said a senior police officer.
Poonam Verma, the victim’s wife and her paramour Kamaljeet were arrested on Thursday after the police identified the victim with the help of Zipnet record and found that she was involved in the murder.
“Since her step to lodge a missing complaint about her husband four months after his disappearance looked suspicious, we subjected her to sustained interrogation, during which she broke down and confessed to killing her husband with the help of her two paramours,” said the officer, adding that efforts are on to nab the absconding paramour.
