The Delhi Commission for Women (DVW) has objected to the fact that the committee probing sexual allegations against hockey coach MK Kaushik did not include any women. The all-male four-member committee was constituted by Hockey India to look into the matter after the sex scandal broke recently.

“The Commission considers the matter very serious as even the committee formed by Hockey India to probe into the charges is an all-male body which is in violation of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India’s directions on constitution of Sexual Harassment Committee,” said Barkha Singh, chairperson of the DCW in a letter to MS Gill, the Sports Minister.

“Ideally, the committee enquiring sexual harassment ought to have a woman as a chairperson and 50% of its members as female and one NGO representative in order to ensure fairness and objectivity of enquiry,” said Singh.

In the same letter the DCW offered its services, if required and also asked to be given a detailed copy of the complaint itself and all details on any action taken. Hockey India meanwhile is expected to forward the report to Sports Authority of India.
