The Rs 300 crore project entails setting up of sewage treatment plants in Srinagar and eco-restoration of wetlands, he said during Question Hour.
Ramesh said the government has sanctioned projects for conservation of 57 lakes at an estimated cost of Rs 856.76 crore.
The minister had to face the ire of party colleague Chaudhary Lal Singh (Udhampur), when he sought information about lakes in Jammu region but Ramesh went on to list out details about the Wular Lake in Kashmir.
He said four proposals have been received from Uttar Pradesh of which the project for prevention of pollution and revival of Mansi Ganga Lake in Mathura was sanctioned in March 2007 at a cost of Rs 22.71 crore.
The proposals for Ramgarh Tal, Gorakhpur and Laxmi Tal, Jhansi were examined and referred back to the state government for technical clarifications, he said.
The proposal for Madansagar in Mohaba in Uttar Pradesh does not meet the guidelines of National Lake Conservation Plan, he added.
