The 1974 batch UP cadre IAS officer was additional secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office before being appointed executive director in the World Bank.
Chatterjee assumed charge from TKA Nair, his predecessor who’d continue as advisor to the PM in the rank of minister of state.
The new principal secretary later met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and had an introductory session with PMO officials of the level of deputy secretary and above.
The change of guard in the PMO is expected to enhance coordination between the government and the UPA’s lead party, the Congress. Chatterjee who retired recently from the IAS was private secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi when she was Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
