Qayamuddin Kapadia — wanted in connection with the serial blasts in Delhi and Ahmedabad — reportedly trained young Indian Mujahideen (IM) recruits along with Atif Ameen alias Bashir at L-18, Jamia Nagar. The other flat members knew Qayamuddin as “Rizwan”, said the Delhi Police.
Qayamuddin and top IM and Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) leader Abdus Subhan Qureshi was actively involved in motivating youngsters to join the IM group and wage a war against the country, the police said.
Qayamuddin is said to have attended a training camp in Karnataka along with alleged SIMI leader Safdar Nagori. Nagori is
currently in the custody of Ahmedabad police.
Investigations revealed Qayamuddin had stayed at Atif’s hideout from August 27 to September 8. Mohammad Saif, who was arrested by the Special Cell, identified Qayamuddin in a photograph shown to him, the police said.
“Saif initially said he did not know anyone by the name of Qayamuddin. But when we showed him Qayamuddin’s photograph, he identified the person to be one Rizwan. Then we got to know that Qayamuddin was living in Delhi,” said a senior police officer. The police said Qayamuddin met Atif at a house in Ahmedabad prior to the blasts there on July 26.
“Atif, Qayamuddin and 11 others returned to Delhi by the Rajdhani Express on July 27. They were in the train when bombs
were exploding in Ahmedabad,” said the officer.
After getting down at the Nizamuddin railway station, they boarded an auto and reached the L-18 flat. “It was Qayamuddin who indoctrinated the new recruits. He was helped by Atif and Shakeel, who has been arrested,” said the officer.
Qayamuddin left on September 8 after making sure that the explosives to be used in the blasts had reached Delhi.
“Saif said he was not aware of Qayamuddin’s identity. They were not allowed to ask questions,” said the officer.
