For nearly five lakh students who will sit for the Class X and Class XII board exams in the capital, D-Day—the day they will put their months of preparation to test—is almost here.

But it’s not just good preparation and revisions that will guarantee a good score. There are smart ways to attempt a paper, which not only help you finish in time but ensure that you do justice to all the hard work you’ve put in.

Read the instructions: Read the question paper properly or this may cost you dearly.

“Many a times, students end up attempting more questions than required. That is wastage of time. So our teachers have advised us to read the instructions carefully,” said Karishma Kaul, a class X student.

“Sometimes students forget to answer the sub-part of a question, if the don’t read carefully,” said Vithika Rahul, a CBSE counselor.

Budget your time: Spend five minutes and allocate your time for each section wisely and make sure you stick to it. Don’t spend too much time answering the first question. It’s important to answer all and not just a few questions properly.

If in doubt, move on: If you cannot recall an answer or are unsure of it, don’t waste time on that question. “They should not stick to one, but instead leave space and move on to the next question. Students should also divide the questions in order of ‘Best, Average and Do Not Know’ and then answer accordingly,” added Rahul.

Try to finish before time: Revision should top your list of priorities. Keep a little time for revisiting your answers and correct your mistakes. Highlight the keywords and important points.
