Users of Windows devices will now have “anytime, anywhere” access for booking e-tickets for rail journeys, with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) having launched a new application in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation.
The additional e-ticketing channel will have all website services of the IRCTC portal, while offering a few exclusive services to app users such as visual maps of train routes. Other features will include Windows Phone live tiles (lighting up as train tickets) and access to saved traveler profiles from multiple devices.
The application was launched at a function on Thursday by IRCTC managing director Rakesh Tandon and general manager of Microsoft Corporation (developer and platform evangelism) Joseph Landes.
Windows Phone, Windows 8 desktop/tab users can download this application from the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store. The application is free of charge.
Using this new app one can perform all the tasks already available on the IRCTC website. It will be available throughout the day except for 0800 — 1200 hours and 2330 — 0030 hours, as per the existing railway guidelines.
