The mercury in the city shot up again on Thursday as the maximum temperature almost touched the 40-degree mark. The maximum temperature was recorded at 39.4 degrees, two degrees above normal.
But the weekend could bring some respite from the heat. The weatherman has predicted a spell of rain showers on both Friday and Saturday.
"A little rainfall is usually seen when the temperature touches 40 degrees. We are expecting it in the coming two days," a Met department official said.
Dust storms and a cloudy sky have also been forecast by the weatherman.
The minimum temperature on Thursday was recorded as 24.9 degrees, a degree above normal. The humidity oscillated between 32% and 65%.
The maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded as 36.4 degrees, while the minimum was 23.2 degrees. The temperature had crossed the 40-degree mark on April 25 for the first time this summer when it touched 40.5 degree celsius.
"The change in the wind direction, which was seen after the mercury crossed 40 degrees, is expected to bring some rain with it. But the temperature from next week is expected to be quite high," the official added.
While the maximum temperature is expected to touch the 40-degree mark during the weekend, rainfall is expected to make the evening pleasant.
