Under fire from his colleagues over his style of functioning, BJP chief Rajnath Singh on Wednesday welcomed his predecessor LK Advani's advice to him to consult his seniors and draw up corrective measures for the party.

"Whatever he has said lies in the party's interest," Singh told PTI. His comments came a day after Advani raised a series of questions over the BJP's crushing defeat in Uttar Pradesh after an election campaign designed by Singh himself.

"His remarks aimed at strengthening the party. I welcome them wholeheartedly," he said.

Pressure mounted on Singh when Advani told him on Tuesday to come out with urgent corrective measures, in consultation with his seniors in the backdrop of the Uttar Pradesh debacle.

Singh, who had kept his own counsel while selecting his team of office-bearers and allocating responsibilities, found no support either from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose brief address to the party's national executive gave no clue of his backing to the party chief.

Advani instead told the BJP president, who has invited disaffection from within the organisation, especially after the party's losses in Uttar Pradesh and Goa, to draw up a task sheet detailing immediate corrective action both at the central level and in states.
