Rajya Sabha MPs’ assets also come under RTI
After the Lok Sabha, information on the assets of Rajya Sabha members will also be available under Right to Information Act, reports Chetan Chauhan.
After the Lok Sabha, information on the assets of Rajya Sabha members will also be available under Right to Information Act.
In a reply to a RTI application filed by Subhash Aggarwal, the Rajya Sabha secretariat said that the details about assets and liabilities of 16 out of 18 union ministers belonging to Rajya Sabha were available with it. Till now, the matter kept shuttling between the PMO and Cabinet Secretariat as to who holds the information.
Last December, the PMO declined to give the information. The Central Information Commission then referred the matter to the chairpersons of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha stating that “such information can be disclosed with the permission of the Speaker.”
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has approved the disclosure of information for Lok Sabha MPs. This week, the Rajya Sabha also agreed.
