Shiv Sainik-turned-Congressman Narayan Rane seems to have surrendered for now. After calling on Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he said he would abide by her advice to wait for some more time before quitting the Vilaorao Deshmukh government.
The Revenue Minister, who kept away from cabinet meetings, said he would start attending them. “I had not gone only for one…I will be attending cabinet meetings,” he said after the 30-minute meeting with Sonia.
But he added that he has not withdrawn the resignation letter he had sent to the Congress chief last month. “No decision has been taken on it,” he said recalling that she had earlier asked him to “wait for some time.”
Happy with his interaction, he said he had apprised Sonia on the situation about the party and government in Maharashtra. “I will act as per her guidance,” he said.
As for his meeting NCP leader and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Rane claimed he had gone to discuss a local airport issue with him.
But he sidestepped queries on whether he had got any assurance about accommodating him or his supporters, saying that he has never bargained for anything. In that case, was today’s meeting a setback for him? Rane put up a brave face while retorting: “Meri koi haar nahi hui hai (There is no defeat for me).’’
