A 27-year-old woman jumped off from the second floor of a building in an attempt to save herself from getting raped, police said.

Police said the woman had gone to meet a friend in Begumpura area of outer Delhi when her friend’s neighbour attempted to rape her. The woman jumped off the second floor of the building to save herself and faced critical injuries. She was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

“We were informed about the incident by the hospital authority and after regaining consciousness, the woman narrated the entire incident. The main accused himself had taken the woman to the hospital after she jumped,” said a senior police officer.

The woman had gone to meet her friend Vishal at his house in Begumpura. Police said Vishal had gone to buy something when his neighbour Parvinder tried to rape the woman.

“After she jumped from the second floor, Parvinder rushed her to the hospital but didn’t inform Vishal. After the hospital authority informed us, we went to question them and the woman told us what happened,” the officer added.

Police said Parvinder is absconding since the incident and a case of attempt to rape has been registered against him. The woman is a native of Haryana and is pursing a lab technician’s course from a paramedical institute in New Ashok Nagar area in east Delhi.
